What Is a Sedimentation Centrifuge?

A sedimentation centrifuge is a piece of equipment that is able to separate solids from liquids, or different liquids from each other, using centrifugal force. Unlike traditional techniques that use gravity, and can take anywhere from hours to days, this instrument is able to separate constituents in a matter of minutes. It does so by rotating a container at a sufficiently high speed, thus creating centrifugal forces that far exceed gravity. Heavier components like solids are pushed outwards while lighter liquids maintain a position towards the center. Thus, separation becomes faster and more efficient.
